The Peasant in UnderMine, is the controllable Character the player uses to go on an adventure. When he arrives in the mine, he will meet Arkanos the Archmage, who wants to find out about the ongoing earthquakes and where the Blacksmith has disappeared to.

The player has a trusty familiar, a Canary, who is so friendly as to pick up dropped gold.

Character creation[edit | edit source]

There are 3 game save slots available, each with their own player character. After selecting "Play" from the main menu, the player can either select an existing game (if one exists), or start a new game, creating a new character. New characters are also created automatically after a character dies, and will receive half of the previous character's gold, unless a Sewing Kit or Sack Upgrades are acquired. Both the character name and clothing color are chosen at random.

    Journal[edit | edit source]

    ~ Arkanos the Archmage

After speaking to Arkanos in the Library, the player will be told to pickup a journal (their first Artifact), and cannot leave the Library until they have done so. During the game, the player can look up the "peasant's" stats in the journal, which contains information about his equipment, health, how much damage he can cause, his speed and his "gold sack integrity". The player can open the journal by pressing Tab on their keyboard.

Players also can look up which artifacts, potions and relics were collected or which blessings and curses he has loaded upon himself.

    Player equipment[edit | edit source]

There are several upgrades for the player's clothing.

    Character death[edit | edit source]

Once a character's health is completely depleted, they will die and respawn in the Hub as a new character. They will keep their journal, but lose some of their gold unless they have a Sewing Kit. If the player again speaks to Arkanos in the library, he will offer some items in exchange for Gold. The NPCs then also will mention in the dialogue, that the player looks a little different.
