Image file names

A wiki manager suggested we change the image filenames to match the item name. Although I like the idea, keeping the filenames the same as they are in the game assets will make it easier to upload new versions of files when necessary. I have created Template:Item_image to convert from the item name to the filename, the only downside being that it would need updating whenever new content is added to the game.

I would like your thoughts on the matter. Ferretwings (talk) 20:08, 16 August 2019 (UTC), CTM

Oh god, decisions! I mean, both methods work, but I think on many wikis we often really renamed the images to match the names used in the game. Keeping such a list is a good idea, although, and I'm not that great with it, you also could use DPL for that, couldn't you? I'd probably place the asset title in the image file and on the wiki page of the item (usually in the infobox). Encredechine (talk) 21:44, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
DPL would be quite useful. Would you install it please? :) Ferretwings (talk) 22:40, 16 August 2019 (UTC)
Were you able to use MsUpload to categorize images as you uploaded them? Ferretwings (talk) 00:40, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
Site is waiting for a refresh to activate DPL3. Usually, if you upload directly into a category, the image gets categorised right there. We had bugs in the past preventing that and then the images just had no category. But that was a rare occasion and slightly annoying to sort it all afterwards. If you had uploaded files correctly into a category and this happened, please ticket it. Encredechine (talk) 11:27, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
Ok, as I upload files, I'll make sure I'm doing it in the category page. Thanks for the tip :)
When the discussion arose on the Undermine discord regarding filenames, Quasimodem said, "i'd advise keeping the filenames generic as well, we do that on the engine side b/c item names tend to change and they're going to diverge anyway" ... I've begun adding small infoboxes (containing item name & asset name) to the files so whichever route we take, the info will be there. Ferretwings (talk) 17:39, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
There is also the option of creating file redirects e.g. File:Golden Popcorn.png could redirect to File:GoldenPopcorn01.png Ferretwings (talk) 23:17, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
Yes, you could do so, too. Just stay consistent. Encredechine (talk) 09:13, 18 August 2019 (UTC)

I want to start translating the wiki into Spanish

I would like to translate the wiki into Spanish from Spain, starting with the main page. In the translation guide it says to contact an administrator first before doing anything.

Hello, our recommendation if you are interested in translating a page is that you translate a sample of 2-10 articles and the main page to start, after following steps 1-3 here [1] Encredechine will make a new interwiki. If you have other question or want to be in communication with the other people who work on the wiki I highly recommend joining the undermine discord at [www.discord.gg/undermine] you will also find a translation channel for spanish players of UnderMine that you could potentially recruit help from.
